The murder trial of a Co Dublin man (35) accused of murdering his wife in their home almost three years ago has been deferred for a week.
Joe O'Reilly, with an address at Lambay View, Baldarragh, The Naul, north Co Dublin, is accused of murdering his wife, Rachel, who was found beaten to death in her home in The Naul on October 4th, 2004.
The mother of two was found in her bedroom after the alarm was raised when she failed to collect her children from school and creche.
Mr O'Reilly was charged with her killing last October at Swords District Court. He was arrested at 9.55am on October 20th last at Riversdale Crescent, Co Louth, and brought to Balbriggan Garda station for questioning. One hour later he was charged with the murder.
Judge Patrick Brady was told that when charged, the defendant said he had nothing to say.
The trial was to begin in the Central Criminal Court in Dublin today but had to be put off until next Monday because the judge due to hear the case was not available.
Mr Justice Paul Carney, presiding at the Central Criminal Court today, said the judge assigned to hear the case, Mr Justice Barry White, is not available this week.
The trial is expected to last up to six weeks.
