Athens-bound Gillian O'Sullivan was dramatically disqualified from the National Championships 5000m walk final at the Morton Stadium in Santry today despite crossing the line in first position.
The Kerry athlete finished over a minute ahead of Olive Loughnane but collected three red cards en route and was informed of a her disqualification moments before the medal ceremony.
O'Sullivan should nevertheless be pleased with her form ahead of the Olympics - where she is a medal contender - as her training in recent days has not run as smoothly as she would like because of a lower-back injury.
