Ulster's Tyrone Howe and John Kelly of Munster have been called up by Ireland coach Eddie O’Sullivan in a 25-man squad named for the Six Nations match against Scotland on Saturday week.
With Leicester winger Geordan Murphy and Munster centre Rob Henderson both ruled out through injury, Howe and Kelly along with Mike Mullins of Munster have been drafted in to bolster the back division.
Winger Shane Horgan and second row Paul O'Connell both returned to the squad after injuries, but must prove their fitness in club games at the weekend.
There was still no place for injured skipper Keith Wood, who has not played since tearing a calf muscle playing for Harlequins in December.
Coach Eddie O'Sullivan will name his starting XV to face the Scots next Tuesday.
