Kentucky racing officials have called a press conference after inquiring into allegations that jockey Jose Santos used an illegal electrical device during the Kentucky Derby.
Santos and his attorney met for more than two hours on Monday morning behind closed doors with officials after it was alleged he used an illegal device when steering Funny Cide to victory in the Grade One Kentucky Derby.
No decision was announced after the session but Churchill Downs spokesman John Asher said a news conference would be held at 2pm (EDT).
"The conversation between the stewards and Mr. Santos and his attorney has been completed," Asher said. "The discussion here was part of the process. I think the stewards have a little more discussing to do, then we'll sort this all out at 2pm."
The meeting was held after the Miami Heraldreported that a photograph taken at the finish of the Derby appeared to show Santos might be holding an object other than his whip in his right hand.
If officials decide that Santos carried an illegal device, Funny Cide could be disqualified from his Derby win.
