The clean-up following last week's spillage of heavy fuel oil into Cork Harbour could last for another week, according to Cork County Engineer, Mr Brendan Devlin. It is now feared that the amount leaked could be as high as 6,000 gallons - not 700 as originally estimated - though some sources suggest it might be even higher. Bad weather at the weekend disrupted the clean-up and m ay have spread oil to other parts of the harbour. The spill occurred last Tuesday when a pipe fractured while a tanker was being loaded at the Whitegate Refinery.
