The Northern Ireland Police Ombudsman, Ms Nuala O'Loan, has announced that she has begun an investigation into issues connected to allegations that the RUC had received prior warning of the Omagh bomb but ignored the information.
The allegations were made in a Sunday newspaper a few weeks ago but have been strenuously denied by the RUC Chief Constable, Sir Ronnie Flanagan.
Ms O'Loan confirmed that she had informed the Northern Secretary, Dr John Reid, and the RUC Chief Constable of her decision to start an investigation.
