Open-air concerts are set to return to Slane Castle. Meath County Council has decided to grant planning permission for one concert each year for 10 years.
The castle owner, Henry, Lord Mount Charles, said he is already working on the line-up for next year "and we hope it will be spectacular".
The council announced its decision yesterday evening on an application from promoter, Eamonn McCann. He had sought permission for one concert a year between 1998 and 2007 in the grounds of Slane Castle.
One of the 14 conditions requires the promoter to contribute £25,000 each year to the community in the picturesque village. Other requirements are that the concert day be a Saturday in June, July or August, that the attendance must not exceed 80,000, and that the concert must not start before noon or finish later than 10.30 p.m.
In future, the village will have to be completely cleaned by the promoter by noon on the Monday after the concert. If this is not done, a £25,000 bond, which must be lodged with Meath County Council, will be forfeited.
