One Cool Cat disappoints once again

Classic flop One Cool Cat failed to redeem his tarnished reputation with a disappointing fifth place in the ladbrokes

Classic flop One Cool Cat failed to redeem his tarnished reputation with a disappointing fifth place in the ladbrokes.com International Stakes at the Curragh today.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt was having his first run since finishing second-to-last in the UltimateBet.com 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in May, for which he started the hot favourite.

One Cool Cat, sent off at 1-2 for today's Group Three contest, was settled at the back of the seven-runner field by Jamie Spencer as Red Feather set a steady early pace.

Spencer tried to challenge two furlongs out and although One Cool Cat may have been a bit short of room when trying to come between horses, he could not find the necessary turn of foot to get out of trouble and stayed on at the same pace.

Red Feather made all to win at 8-1, with Trefflich two and a half lengths away in second, ahead of Wathab.

O'Brien was not too downcast by One Cool Cat's defeat as he felt the slow pace had been against the son of Storm Cat.

"He probably ran well considering that it turned into a two-furlong sprint. After four furlongs there was only the filly in front who had a chance," said the Ballydoyle handler.

Both Coral and William Hill have removed One Cool Cat from their betting on the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on July 28th and O'Brien is unsure about plans for the colt.  He added: "We will have to wait and see what happens."
