One soldier from the 101stAirborne Division was killed and 15 were wounded this morning whentwo hand grenades were thrown into the tactical operationscentre at Camp Pennsylvania in central Kuwait.
A US soldier assigned to the brigade has been taken into custody, theofficials said.
The soldier who was killed was not identified.
Army sources said that soldiers had loadedtheir vehicles and were preparing to move from Camp Pennsylvania whenthe grenades exploded at about 1.21 a.m. (local time) in the operations centre, which is in a closely confinedtent and usually manned by a couple of dozen staff officers.
Earlier US Central Command said in a statement that one or more unknown assailants had "attacked elements of the 101st Airborne Division at Camp Pennsylvania, Kuwait" early today.
A spokesman for the 101st said two grenades had been thrown into a command tent at Camp Pennsylvania. Colonel Chris Holden, head of a battalion of the 101st Airborne Division at nearby Camp New York, said he had stepped up patrols around his unit after the attack.
Central Command said the wounded had been evacuated to a field hospital.
