One third of Irish adults have dieted in the last year, according to a survey published today.
The survey found that women who are dieting count calories while men focus on the fat content of food.
The study, commissioned by Kellogg’s Special K and conducted by Lansdowne Market Research, reveals that men and women have very different approaches when it comes to managing their shape.
Men are motivated to diet for health reasons (67%), while women are motivated by the likes of special occasions (55%) or holidays (37%). Only 3 per cent of those surveyed said that celebrity dieting behaviour encouraged them to go on a diet.
