ECC Foreign Language Institute Japan has announced it is establishing its first web-learning centre outside of Japan in Dublin with the creation of 30 jobs over five years.
The centre, based in Harcourt Street in Dublin, will provide live online interactive English language teaching services to customers in Japan via the Web.
The 'Web Lesson' allows students to attend tutorials in their home using web-conferencing technology.
Web learning accounts for over €370 million of Japan's more than €2.2 billion foreign language teaching industry.
The Tánaiste, Ms Harney, speaking at the launch, welcomed the investment.
"This is a good quality international services project and with its requirement for high telecommunications bandwidth at cost effect rates it is a good endorsement of our telecommunications infrastructure," she said.
"The operating costs in Ireland in terms of telecommunications, property and payroll made Dublin an ideal location for this centre and will make it a more cost effective operation than establishing a similar further centre in Japan," the company said.
