The Orange Order in Derry said yesterday it would not take part in talks with the Bogside Residents' Group to discuss plans for the order's parade through the city centre next month.
Mr Alan Lindsay, the order's city grandmaster, said the decision was in keeping with his organisation's policy not to talk to "Sinn Fein-IRA-inspired residents groups".
However, Mr Lindsay said the majority of his members supported talks with the City Centre Initiative.
"We have meetings with the CCI and will be having a further meeting with them tomorrow morning but until such times as the Grand Lodge changes its policy, we will not meet with the BRG," he said.
BRG spokesman Mr Robin Percival said the order's refusal to meet it was indicative of its attitude to residents' groups.
"This hasn't come as a surprise," he said. "It's unfortunate but the order is also refusing to meet the Parades Commission. They've ruled out any form of meetings with residents' groups."
