The grandmother of two children who were killed with their father and mother in a fire in their home in Derry a year ago has said she took comfort from the knowledge that the children's organs helped to save the lives of five other children.
Aaron (10) and Ryan (8) McAuley died with their parents Jody and Debbie when a chip pan fire destroyed their home in Glenowen Estate, Derry, on November 16th last year.
The couple's youngest child, four-year-old Jade, was critically injured in the blaze and is still undergoing treatment. An anniversary Mass for the four fire victims was held in the Termonbacca Retreat Centre in Creggan last night. Speaking before the Mass, Mrs Margaret McAuley said she had received a card which stated that her grandchildren's organs had been used in successful transplants.
