Thirteen BSE cases have been reported this week, bringing to 35 the total number of cases reported this month, Department of Agriculture figures released today revealed.
So far this year, 143 cases of BSE have been reported. August was the worst month with 41 cases detected.
The Department said the majority of cases disclosed this month were the result of its increased active surveillance programme.
It said so far no animals born after 1996 have been detected with BSE and an ever increasing percentage of infected animals are six years or older.
