More than 800 application forms for the new ACCESS scheme have been issued by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands during the past two months.

Originally advertised in June, the scheme offers £36 million in grants for the development of arts and cultural centres throughout the State.

According to the Minister, Ms de Valera, interest from local groups has been so great that she has had to organise a second print-run of the application forms and rules.

ACCESS will assist four main categories: arts centres, theatres, galleries, and museums. Grants for a maximum of 75 per cent of costs will be allocated under three main strands: regional/ county/city projects; redevelopment of existing facilities; and community-based projects. The closing date is October 30th.
