One of Galway's most exclusive hotels has been prosecuted for overcharging for beer during the Galway Races.
Inspectors from the Office of Consumer Affairs (OCA) found the four-star Radisson Hotel on Lough Atalia Road had charged 30 cent more for a pint of Budweiser on July 26th than the price displayed.
Shorelark Limited, owners of the hotel, pleaded guilty at Galway District Court today to breaching the Prices Acts. Shoelark was find €300 and was ordered to pay €250 in costs.
OCA inspectors visited 20 different licensed premises during the Galway Races week to check compliance with the price display regulations.
Speaking after the court case, Director of Consumer Affairs Carmel Foley said people were entitled to expect they would not be charged more than they should. "It is bad for consumers and businesses alike if customer trust is eroded." she said.
