An overturned truck on the N7 is causing delays for commuters due to road closures to allow for removal of the wreckage.
The Naas Road was closed to outbound traffic at 10am following the crash, which happened just before 7am, to allow g ardaí to remove the truck.
The lorry blocked the outbound lane opposite the Luas station at the Red Cow roundabout, but severe delays were also experienced by inbound travellers with debris scattered across the median barrier.
The Naas road outbound lanes were reopened around 11.30am.
But outbound traffic remains heavy from before the Long Mile road, and inbound traffic is still heavy from the Green Isle Hotel. The slip roads from the M50 are also affected as is the Ballymount area, an AA Roadwatch spokeswoman said.
"It will take a while for traffic to return to normal," the spokeswoman said.
Fine Gael Transport spokesperson Olivia Mitchell has used this morning's traffic problems to call for an "urgent" city-wide congestion strategy.
"The latest incident in which a single lorry caused chaos on the M50 and N7 is confirmation that [in] Dublin it only takes a single incident for large parts of Dublin to grind to a halt", she said.
Fine Gael's "ten-point" plan includes setting up a Dublin transport authority and creating rapid reaction units in the Garda Traffic Corps and Garda Reserve to anticipate and respond to incidents, she said.
