The chief executive of Paddy Power Patrick Kennedy has been appointed to the board of Elan, replacing Laurence Crowley who is retiring.
Patrick Kennedy was previously chief financial officer of Greencore and has previously worked with McKinsey & Co and KPMG.
Elan chairman Kyran McLaughlin welcomed Mr Kennedy and Donal O'Connor – who has also been appointed to the board.
"Their experience and enthusiasm for the Company and its objectives will add greatly to the operations of our Board," Mr McLaughlin said.
Mr O'Connor (57) is a member of the PricewaterhouseCoopers global board and is a former chairman of the Eurofirms board.
He is also chairman of the Dublin Docks Development Authority, a member of the board of the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority and the Administrator of Icarom.
At its annual general meeting yesterday Elan said it was course to claim 25 per cent of the market for multiple sclerosis (MS) therapies by 2010.
The company has a target of 100,000 patients for its Tysabri therapy by that stage. Patrick Kennedy was previously chief financial officer of Greencore and has previously worked with McKinsey & Co and KPMG.
