Israeli forces shot dead a Palestinian boy today and launched another missile strike against a leader of the Palestinian uprising.

Palestinian witnesses said Mohammed Zurub (11) had been hurling stones at Israeli troops guarding a Jewish settlement near the Khan Younis refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip when he was shot.

Five other youths were wounded, hospital sources said. The Israeli army had no immediate comment on the death, the latest in a cycle of violence that has overshadowed fresh efforts to establish a truce.

In the West Bank, Mr Jihad al-Miseemy, deputy Palestinian police commander in the city of Nablus, escaped with moderate injuries when his car came under missile fire. Two other people were hurt also when one missile hit the car. The other missed.
