A Palestinian teenager has been arrested in possession of  a suicide bomb vest today in what Israel claimed was an attempt to kill its soldiers.

The boy, identified as 16-year-old Hussam Abdoy was ordered to remove the vest. The Israeli military then ordered him to strip to his underwear.

Israeli army sappers later detonated the explosives.

The incident was the latest in a series of what Israel says are foiled militant attacks involving young Palestinians.

Israeli troops have been on high alert since the assassination of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.

On March 16, Israeli troops stopped an 11-year-old boy trying to smuggle explosives through the Hawara checkpoint. Israel said militants had given the boy the explosives without his knowledge. Palestinians and the boy disputed this, claiming the bag he was carrying - swiftly blown up by army sappers - contained car parts.
