An explosion tore through a house in Shatti refugee camp in the Gaza Strip today, wounding three people in a blast that Palestinian militants blamed on Israel.
The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear.
It took place inside the house of a family known to be linked to militant groups, leading some residents to conclude the explosion may have been caused when explosives detonated prematurely.
Witnesses said they saw no sign of Israeli helicopters or aircraft flying overhead as often happens before missile strikes against militant targets. The Israeli army declined immediate comment on the incident.
A spokesman for the Popular Resistance Committees, an armed faction that operates in the Gaza Strip, accused the Israeli navy of firing a missile at the house, which is located near the beach, in an attempt to assassinate one of its leaders.
"This is a new crime," said Mr Abu Abir, a spokesman for the Popular Resistance Committees.
The Gaza Strip has been rocked in recent days by fighting between Palestinian security forces and gunmen demanding an end to corruption in Palestinian Authority institutions and its security apparatus.
