Alan Pardew is hoping the sale of Jermain Defoe to Tottenham will help him assemble the squad he needs to take West Ham back into the Premiership.
The arrival of Bobby Zamora as part of the deal takes the number of new faces brought to Upton Park this month to seven following the loan signing of Sebastien Carole from Monaco.
But Pardew insists the spending will not stop there after Tottenham paid £7 million sterling for Defoe, and with the Hammers still lying just outside the play-off places.
He said: "I'm getting close to the squad I want but it's always a moving feast and you can never say never.
"Losing Jermain was always going to happen because he wasn't going to sign a contract with us," said Pardew. As much as losing Jermain is a blow, the arrival of Bobby cushions it. He's a fantastic lad and a great, great player.
"I'm really excited about my squad. We've got some good young talent here. But I'd still like to think there's one or two additions I can make to the squad."
West Ham have lost England goalkeeper David James and defender Ian Pearce this month, but Christian Dailly will not be leaving for Portsmouth now the transfer window has shut.
