The pair did not attend the group, and it is understood they then travelled to Belfast, where they boarded the 11.45am sailing to Stranraer. Police believe Sophie’s father boarded the 7.30am sailing earlier that morning.

Police services across the UK and the Garda have been alerted and are assisting the Police Service of Northern Ireland with the investigation.

Police are appealing to the couple to return Sophie to her carers as soon as possible or contact social services, close family or police.

Anyone who believes they may have seen Sophie or her parents or know of their whereabouts is urged by investigators to contact police on 0845 600 8000.
