The parents of a four-year-old British girl kidnapped in Portugal said today they would hire a campaign manager and travel across Europe to spread word about their daughter.
Kate and Gerry McCann have launched a high-profile media campaign to find Madeleine, who disappeared from her bedroom in an Algarve resort on May 3rd.
Soccer players, firms and wealthy individuals have offered millions of pounds to fund a search and offer rewards to find her. Gerry McCann said the family would use the funds to hire a manager to "keep Madeleine's profile high across Europe".
"We will travel, whenever necessary, to ensure people across Europe recognize Madeleine's picture and we will encourage people to come forward with any information which might lead to Madeleine's safe return," he told journalists.
Portuguese police have yet to make any arrests in their investigation but say they have identified one suspect. On Monday, British detectives appealed to tourists who stayed at the Portuguese resort to hand over holiday photographs that might contain clues in the case.
"Our family strongly believes that somebody in the public holds a key piece of information and that is why we have campaigned so vigorously to make sure her disappearance is publicised as much as possible," Gerry McCann said.
He said he wanted to spread the "net far and wide" in the publicity campaign as they do not know for certain whether she has been taken out of Portugal.
