The parents of a Belfast girl who said she was sexually assaulted on holiday in Majorca have angrily rejected suggestions they were in any way to blame.
In a statement issued when they arrived home last night they denied they had been drinking and said their daughter, aged six, was never out of their sight during the 12 days of their holiday.
The statement, issued through their solicitor, Mr Denis Moloney, said they were still mystified as to how a man had been able to take the girl out of the studio apartment without waking them.
The parents - who wish to remain anonymous to protect their daughter - said they were woken by the noise of a door closing and found their daughter in a most agitated state.
The statement went on: "An intruder from an adjoining apartment had entered our studio by an open balcony patio door. Our child, who had been sleeping, was removed to a sun terrace and indecently assaulted."
Mr Moloney, of the firm of Donnelly and Wall, said before returning home the parents had engaged solicitors in Majorca to act on their behalf. He said they were insistent that their daughter had been molested despite a statement that doctors found no supporting evidence.
An English youth arrested in connection with the assault has been released on bail while investigations continue.
"Our child positively identified the assailant, who is now on bail subject to stringent conditions," the statement ended.
