"A beautiful princess gone but not forgotten", a Sri Lankan tourist scribbled yesterday at the site of the Paris crash which killed Britain's Princess Diana two years ago today.

But the French daily Le Figaro, with its headline "Forgotten Princess", appeared to disagree.

In the French capital, the anniversary will go unnoticed.

A spokesman for the Paris city hall said there were no plans for any ceremony, and works have yet to start on a small public garden in the capital's Marais district due to be renamed "Lady Diana, Princesse de Galles".
