Irish computer chip designer Parthus Technologies today unveiled a newly designed microchip for use in advanced mobile phone platforms.

The MobiStream chip will be used in the next-generation General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) mobile phone platform.

Parthus claims MobiStream has the highest data transmission rates and integrated processing capability in the mobile semiconductor market.

US comuter equipment maker 3Com has been announced as the first licensee as part of a licensing agreement with Parthus announced last month.
