A 39-year-old Co Limerick man was remanded in custody yesterday in connection with the discovery of his partner's body in a thatched cottage near the village of Craughwell, Co Galway, on Sunday afternoon.
Kieran Lynch, from Askeaton, appeared before Galway District Court where he was charged with assaulting Ms Catherine McEnery causing her harm some time between Saturday and Sunday last at Rose Cottage, Derryhoyle Mor, Craughwell.
He was further charged with producing the leg of a chair in the course of a fight, contrary to Section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990, during the same incident.
The body of Ms McEnery (35), a native of Feenagh, Co Limerick, was found with extensive head injuries in her bed by gardaí at 8.50am on Sunday morning.
Judge Aeneus McCarthy remanded the accused in custody to appear at Harristown District Court this Friday.
