Meeting House Square is a mecca for parties this week. All wend their way to Eden Restaurant to hear about a summer-long festival of free outdoor cultural events in the quarter. Jazz is played to help us get in the mood, while over in another corner, at the National Photographic Archive, a party of photographers and their friends come to view pictures taken in Dublin recently.
Diversions is the outdoor festival, running from May to September. Recent Histories is the work of three Dublin-based photographers, David Monahan, Pete Smyth and Michael Durand. The show, which runs until Saturday, May 26th, is opened by Fintan O'Toole.
Spotted there are Elaine Browne, of DIT Temple Bar and classmates - their own exhibition opens here on June 5th. Checking out the images are Monahan's wife, Carole Caprani and their daughter, Niamh Monahan (7). Here are Smyth's wife, artist Fiona McGivern, with two of their children, Leslie (12) and Rachel (11). Gerry O'Dea, of the Dublin Camera Club, is here too, chatting to photographer Johnie Doyle, who sports a Leica Leitz around his neck - the ultimate ultimate accessory.
