A taxi driver was recovering in hospital today after being stabbed in the face in a knife attack by a passenger in Co Armagh last night.
He suffered a deep wound to the face when the male passenger he picked up in the Parkmore Avenue area of Lurgan leaned forward from the back seat and stabbed him while being driven towards Craigavon at 9.45 p.m.
The attacker jumped out and ran off, said police who said they were keeping an open mind about the motive for the attack.
Elsewhere last night, a "good Samaritan" ended up in hospital when he was attacked by a gang of youths he stopped from robbing a shop in Co Down.
He was in a grocery shop on the Movilla Road in Newtownards last night when he spotted and challenged youths attempting to steal items.
The youths ran off but waited outside where they attacked the man , punching and kicking him to the ground. He was taken to hospital with head injuries.
