A passenger train has crashed in England this evening. Six to eight people are feared to be trapped in one of the train's carriages, which has slipped down an embankment, Cumbria Ambulance Service said.
The train derailed between Oxenholme and Tebay in Cumbria and the British Transport Police are still only on their way to the scene. The train was reported to be the 5.15pm Virgin service from London Euston to Glasgow Central.
A Cumbria Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the carriage in which people were trapped was the second one on the train, which had six in total.
She said the ambulance service was alerted to the crash at 8.16pm and that it had taken place near Little Docker Cottage, around the area of Grayrigg, near Kendal.
Some 12 ambulance vehicles are at the scene and paramedics are assessing the situation and the injured passengers.
The spokeswoman said: "At the moment, we have reports of various injuries, from leg injuries to back injuries and head injuries - ranging from minor to quite serious."
