Dublin's postal deliveries could be disrupted next week due to industrial action by 1,200 postal workers claiming extra overtime payment for handling increased volumes of mail. Members of the Dublin Postal District Branch of the Communications Workers' Union, say there has been a huge increase in mail and threaten a work-to-rule from Monday if their demands are not met.
A spokesman for An Post said that during discussions with the union this week workers said they would impose an overtime ban at the weekend, and from Monday there would be a work-to-rule. Talks then took place under the aegis of the Labour Relations Commission to avert industrial action.
An interim agreement was reached and proposals put forward. An Post believed industrial action had been temporarily averted. But later it was told workers had decided to proceed with their action.
