Peamont Hospital in West Dublin has confirmed an investigation is under way into an allegation concerning a member of staff at the hospital.
A spokesperson said the member of staff has been suspended pending the investigation, which he said is being conducted "internally and externally".
The spokesperson said "a serious allegation had been made" against the member of staff.
It's understood the allegation concerns some patients at the hospital and that the Gardaí are conducting a separate investigation, although the Garda press office would not confirm this.
