Workers at Peerless Rugs in Athy have been awarded three weeks' pay for each year of service, plus statutory entitlements, by the Labour Court. The 65 workers have accepted the award but continue to occupy the plant until they hear the company's response. The award was based on the financial information provided by the receiver.
A spokesman for the company said last night it was not possible to comment as the managing director, Mr Martin Buckley, was abroad and was unaware of the court decision.
The workers and the SIPTU regional secretary, Mr Mike Jennings, are to meet the Tanaiste, Ms Harney, and local public representatives tomorrow.
