The accident happened at around midday on Patrick's Street. Gardai said the pensioner was attempting to cross the busy road when she was struck by the truck.

The woman is the 17th person to die on the country's roads this year, seven of which were pedestrians. Patrick Street North and South was closed for several hours after the accident.
