A landmine victim singled out for his courage by Princess Diana has been honoured in the "People of the Year" awards. Chris Moon (35), who recently appeared on the Late Late Show, lost a leg and a hand in an explosion as he cleared landmines in Mozambique two years ago. But he overcame his disabilities to complete a Sahara marathon and raise over £100,000 for the Red Cross.
He was one of 10 winners of the awards presented at the London Hilton. Other winners included Dublin-born Christina Noble, known as the Angel of Saigon for her charity work in Vietnam, and racing commentator Sir Peter O'Sullevan.
Bookmakers have stopped taking bets on the first Spice Girl to quit because hundreds of punters are backing Emma Bunton. Emma (21) was 5/1 to leave first after it was rumoured her affair with axed manager Simon Fuller (36) has forced colleagues to issue a him-or-us ultimatum.
The break with Fuller's company has left the Spice Girls without drivers, publicity officers and their back-up staff.
The Rev Paul Walker, an Anglican priest from Sunderland, beat four other preachers in front of a congregation of 250 in Durham Cathedral to receive title of Preacher of the Year. The panel of judges was chaired by BBC's Joan Bakewell.
Actress Nicole Kidman (30) has ruled out having a baby with husband Tom Cruise in the near future, according to next month's Vanity Fair.
