Olympic track star Florence Griffith Joyner was eulogised at the weekend as a woman of great stamina and style who astonished countless young athletes with her speed, and inspired her family with her grace and faith.
"What was in her heart, every time she laced up her spikes, was Jesus. God is her coach, now. God is her manager," said her former coach, Bob Kersee. He addressed 1,500 mourners at Saddleback Community Church in California.
The funeral lasted nearly three hours, ending as hundreds filed past the casket of the track star who won three gold medals at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Many described themselves as shaken by her sudden death at the age of 38.
British TV presenter Des Lynam made love six times a night to a redheaded widow during breaks between his World Cup shows, she has told a newspaper.
The 55-year-old Match of the Day host had a relationship with Laura Ewing (48), who lives just yards away from the luxury home he shares with his long-term partner Rose Diamond.
"Desmond talked about marriage and he loved me in stockings and suspenders," Ewing told the News of the World. Lynam has admitted to a "an error of judgment" but said his 14-year relationship with Diamond had, if anything, grown even stronger.
Ewing said: "I called him Desmond because I told him I thought Des was too working-class. He called me Scarlett, as in Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind." The affair ended in July, she said.
Former rugby hero Will Carling, who last week walked out on his girlfriend and baby boy, told yesterday of his relationship with Diana, Princess of Wales.
His comments, in a serialisation of his autobiography in the Mail On Sunday, were made amid the furore over his treatment of fiancee Ali Cockayne. Carling (32) said of Diana: "I found her immensely attractive. I was attracted to her but I never made a pass at her. I'm actually very, very shy and I can't conceive how you would say `What about it?' to a princess.
