Pet owners have been warned to keep their animals indoors during Halloween by the DSPCA.
The Dublin Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said attacks on animals were relatively rare but owners should be vigilant nonetheless.
The group said pets should be kept indoors in an area where they cannot escape and where the noise of bangers and fireworks is at a minimum. Putting a radio or television on in the room can also be effective, the DSPCA said.
It also warned not to leave animals in rooms with lighted candles or pumpkins and said animals should not be dressed up in costumes for the festivities. Reports of abuse can be directed to the Garda or the local SPCA.
