The attack on the Derry home of the North's Policing Board vice-chairman, Mr Denis Bradley, has been condemned this morning.
Mr Bradley's house in Templemore Park was attacked between 8.30 and 9 p.m. He was in Belfast, but his wife and 15-year-old son were in the house at the time of the attack last night. They were uninjured, and minor scorch damage was caused to the house.
Speaking this morning Mr Bradley said: "I won't be leaving any Policing Board, I won't be leaving
anything. It was two children who did this to me - some adult sent them out - there was no real damage."
But he warned: "There will be deaths some day, someone will be killed, someone will be hurt."
Policing Board Chairman, Professor Desmond Rea, said the attack was an "act of wanton cowardice"; Sinn Féin chairman Mr Mitchel McLaughlin branded those responsible for the attack as "mindless idiots".
Northern Ireland Office minister Ms Jane Kennedy said Mr Bradley and his colleagues serving the community "deserve the support of all decent people in Northern Ireland".
Former SDLP member Mr John Hume said the incident was "appalling"
"Denis is doing very positive work on the Policing Board and I am certain that I speak for the vast majority of the people of this city in utterly condemning this terrible attack on Denis and his family. This sort of attack has no place in the new Derry or the new society we are building," he said.
SDLP leader Mr Mark Durkan said: "The people who instigated last night's attack on Denis Bradley's home demonstrated their contempt for the values of democracy and decency, and that they have no concern at all for human life."
Mr Bradley received three bullets attached to a Mass card last August.
There have been a number of resignations from District Policing Partnerships as a result of individual intimidation, and the "Real IRA" issued a blanket threat against all DPP members last month.
