Two early trains to Dublin were cancelled yesterday morning after a wildcat action by two rail workers.
The incident occurred at 5.30am as trains from Cork and Kerry were stopped at Mallow station, Co Cork.
A guard at the station launched a one-man picket, and a colleague joined in.
The trains affected were the 5.30am from Cork to Dublin, and the 6.55am from Tralee to Dublin.
It is understood that 28 passengers were on the Cork train, while an unspecified number were on the Tralee train.
All passengers were taken to Dublin by bus after the pair refused to end their protest.
According to an Iarnród Éireann spokesman, the guard took the action after he was disciplined for "a failure to discharge his duties".
The two men said they would keep up their action until their grievances were listened to by station management.
