Pickets are expected to be placed on Zoe Developments sites today in a dispute over a wage claim by bricklayers. The company last night warned that it would be forced to place all its staff on protective notice if pickets were not suspended. All 42 bricklayers at six Zoe sites in Dublin served strike notice last week in a dispute which began in November. The strike notice expired last night.
Zoe Developments said its bricklayers earned an average weekly wage of £750 and claimed they were demanding a 64 per cent increase. The Building and Allied Trades Union (BATU) said its members earned substantially less than the figure quoted by Zoe.
