Heading for Kerry around Valentine's Day? Bring your camera. That's what you should do if you have a romantic bone in your body, according to Bridie Brassil, one of the organisers of Samhlaiocht Chiarrai, the group behind the annual Easter Arts Festival in Kerry.
Ideally photographs of the county in all its magnificent moods should be taken on the day itself but anything suitable captured within the past six months will be eligible for inclusion in For the Love of Kerry, a limited edition book of photographs to be launched on Saturday, April 18th, during the festival.
The time-scale, warns Bridie, is very tight. The photographs must be submitted by February 20th. The book will be marketed in Britain, North America and Australia.
While colour photographs will be accepted, the limited, 250-copy hardback edition will appear only in black and white at £25 a copy. A paperback edition for £10 will also be available and advance orders are being taken. Samhlaiocht Chiarrai promotes participation in and appreciation of the arts in Kerry. In ad dition to the arts festival, it runs seminars, training programmes and other arts-related events during the year.
The book is likely to be well received by the diaspora - but for Kerry people around the world it will have a special meaning.
