Researchers from Sweden encouragingly reportthey have developed a possible vaccine against "Spanish tummy", the stomach ailment travellers are prone to. A team at Gothenburg University developed a vaccine against enterotoxigenic E coli, the cause of traveller's diarrhoea.
They report their results in the journal, Infection and Immunity.
An oral vaccine based on an inactivated bacterium was tested on volunteers. The two-dose vaccine raised antibodies against the bacterium in 83 per cent of the sample.
