A viable pipe bomb was found outside a house in Co Tyrone last night.

The device was discovered close to a car outside the house in the village of Coagh at 10.45pm.

A road in the Windsor Villas area was sealed off and a number of houses were evacuated while British army technical officers dealt with the device. The area was cleared early this morning and residents were able to return to their houses.

A nearby Orange Hall was not believed to be the intended target of the device, which was removed for examination. Detectives in Cookstown are investigating the incident.

Two police vehicles were damaged in Strabane last night when a routine patrol was attacked by a group of youths.

The PSNI said two petrol bombs, stones and other items were thrown at the patrol in the Co Tyrone town just before 9pm.
