Britain's champion trainer Martin Pipe reached 200 winners for the eighth time when Nouveau Cheval won the Sprotbrough Claiming Hurdle at Doncaster today.
Ridden by Tom Scudamore, the seven-year-old beat by Prelude To Fame at odds of 5-4.
But Pipe failed by six days to equal his quickest-ever 200 of two years ago when he completed a double century on February 23rd.
The trainer first reached the landmark in the 1988-1989 campaign and is the only jumps handler ever to do so.
Pipe missed out on the magical figure last term in a season ravaged by the foot and mouth epidemic, but the 11-time champion trainer has spared no effort in getting back on track.
Pipe has the most wins of any trainer ever, with well over 3,000 successes under National Hunt rules.
