This weekend will be a real treat for those off duty, with the concert of the year in Phoenix Park tomorrow, a healthy helping of GAA action around the country and the Denny Bloomsday Centenary Breakfast in Dublin on Sunday.
Special bus and rail services are in place for the Chilli Peppers concert (although the old rockers of ireland.comwonder why this concert isn't referred to by its rightful name of "the Pixies concert").
Dublin Bus are running a special shuttle bus service on Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm and the bus will run between Georges' Quay and the Islandbridge Gate of the Conyngham Road.
Limerick and Cork Chilli Peppers (and Pixies) fans can make their way to Dublin on special concert trains. The concert site is located at Whitefields in Phoenix Park, near the Castleknock end. Gates open at 11.30 a.m. The concert is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and ends at 10.30 p.m. All gates into the Park close to traffic at 11 p.m. today and will remain closed until Sunday morning. Approximately 100,000 are expected to attend the event.
After a night of headbanging in Phoenix Park, a bit of high-culture is on offer in Dublin as 10,000 Dubliners and visitors will share in the Denny Bloomsday Breakfast on O'Connell Street in commemoration of Leopold Bloom's famous morning meal in Ulysses.
O'Connell Street will be closed in both directions from Abbey Street junction to Cathal Brugha Street junction until midday. Diversions will be in place for most Dublin Bus routes due to go through O'Connell Street.
The weekend's GAA fixtures will also have an effect on traffic around the country. On Saturday, Senior Football Championship Qualifiers take place in Newbridge, Clones, Ennis, Dr Cullen Park, Aughrim, Drogheda and Parnell Park in Dublin. On Sunday, Leinster Senior Hurling Championships semi-finals take place in Croke Park in Dublin.
Resurfacing works are taking place in Wexford until the end of June on the N80 between Scarawalsh and Bunclody and delays are expected there. In Westmeath, the fast lane on the Mullingar By-Pass is now closed westbound and resurfacing works will commence in area on Monday.
In Cork, 100 cyclists have began to make their way towards Limerick where they are expected to arrive at about 4.30 p.m. today. On Saturday, the group will leave Limerick for Galway.
In Dublin, due to upgrading works there will be no southbound Dart services between Pearse Station and Greystones during weekends in June.
