Istanbul - The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack on a busy Istanbul square on Saturday, the pro-Kurdish news agency DEM said yesterday. It was the first time the PKK had acknowledged responsibility for a bombing in the series of attacks which have hit Istanbul since the arrest of the PKK leader, Mr Abdullah Ocalan, last month.
The agency quoted the Kurdistan People's Liberation Army (ARGK), the PKK's armed wing, as saying that the suicide bomber was a member of an ARGK women's unit. Ten people were wounded in the attack at Taksim Square in central Istanbul.
