Two men escaped uninjured when the small plane they were travelling on crashed landed in Co Wicklow this evening.
The incident, involving a Cessna 152 light aircraft, occurred at Newcastle Airfield between 7pm and 7.30pm.
The plane was badly damaged in the crash.
The Department of Transport's Air Accident Investigation Unit is at the scene.
In a statement, the department said the aircraft experienced power loss as it approached the runway and was "significantly damaged".
The private airfield in Newcastle has a 690 metre grass runway. The airfield is located below Dublin's Class C airspace and has Customs approval.
