Playing helps children develop their skills in learning, interaction and communication, children's charity Barnardos said today.
The charity, along with baby food firm Cow & Gate, was publishing its Guide to Games and Activities for children aged up to five in Dublin today.
RTÉ Health Squadpresenter Sheana Keane and her daughter, Isabelle, unveiled the guide this morning at The Ark in Temple Bar.
Elaine Guiney of Barnardos said the guide was more than just about having fun. "Through play, children learn to share, make their own choices and develop their independence," she said.
