The famed rugby tradition of Limerick city is being brought a stage further with the world premiere of a play based on the 12-0 win by Munster over the All Blacks 21 years ago. Alone She Stands, which draws its title from a line in the Shannon Rugby Club anthem There is an Isle opened in the Belltable Arts Centre last night and fittingly during the World Cup series.
It is being staged by the Yew Tree Company from Sligo in collaboration with Limerick's professional theatre company, The Island Theatre. The play is written by John Breen, a native of Limerick, who is artistic director of Yew Tree and was one of the first interns on the Abbey Theatre Directors Scheme.
